Pediatric Immunizations

Cornerstone Pediatrics, PC follows the immunization guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). For information about these vaccines and the diseases they protect against, please visit www.healthychildren.org/english/safety-prevention/immunizations/pages/default.aspx

New guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) were released this summer and will impact this year’s flu vaccine choices.  Both the AAP and the ACIP recommend that only the inactivated influenza vaccine given by injection be used this season to vaccinate against the flu.  After reviewing the past three flu seasons, the scientific data shows that the live attenuated intranasal vaccine had poor effectiveness. The news article linked has full information to review: http://www.aappublications.org/news/2016/06/22/influenzavaccine062216

The doctors and staff at Cornerstone want to continue to provide our patients with the latest information and most current standard of treatment.  Therefore, we will only be offering the injectable inactivated influenza vaccine this season.  We continue to emphasize the need for yearly flu vaccination to protect from what can be a dangerous and sometimes deadly virus.  The injectable vaccine provides the protection needed against the flu virus. We will continue to update our patients as we receive more information on the availability of the vaccine this season in order to continue to provide the best care.

Our Vaccine Philosophy

Our practice believes that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the AAP and the CDC. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections, and are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention.

It is the policy of all Cornerstone Pediatrics physicians that your child(ren) receive all of the immunizations required by the State of Alabama. This is a non-negotiable policy of the physicians of Cornerstone Pediatrics.

We are happy to discuss your concerns about vaccines at your child’s next visit.
